Health Literacy Design Services

Why is Health Literacy Design Crucial to your Healthcare Communication?

Making the Case

To start, designing your patient and audience materials with a health literacy designer involves considering the characteristics of the intended audience. These include:

  • Demographics and economic contexts
  • Behaviors and age
  • Language and literacy skills
  • Real-world experiences
  • Cultural and social diversity

A growing body of research shows that using an experienced designer adhering to health literacy principles (plain language, visuals, teach-back, testing, etc.) improves comprehension, safety, adherence, and — in several studies — clinical outcomes such as readmissions and medication safety.
